The Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University, Denmark is inviting applications for PhD Scholarships at the Doctoral Programme in Music Therapy starting during 2010.
The Scholarships are directed towards the theoretical and/or applied use of music in health, education and social service programmes in clinical areas of music therapy, and can also be for clinically related theoretical research. Projects will be primarily aimed at music therapy, but can also be in the associated fields of music psychology and music in medicine.
Foreign music therapists are eligible to apply for these Scholarships, which allow you to do the research in your own country, and benefit from attending PhD courses at Aalborg University.
The scholarships will offer the following benefits:
- Registration fees at Aalborg University are covered by the scholarship
- Financial support (circa 50,000 per annum (full stiem students)) is given to help with all the research costs.
- Research supervision is paid for under the scholarship scheme.
- The PhD programme at Aalborg at present has 16 registered students, and a further 8-10 will be registered in 2010-2011. It is an exciting milieu with good support for all researchers.
- The PhD programme in Aalborg is part of a Consortium of 9 universities internationally in USA, UK, Australia, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Belgium.
There is no salary attached to the scholarships. They are intended for people who already have income and a job.
The doctoral programme in music therapy is part of the Faculty of Humanities research school, and is placed in the Department of Communication and Psychology. The department also has a five years full-time bachelor/master programmes in Music Therapy, and in Psychology.
Registration can be for 3 year full-time study, or a mixed full-time and part-time over 3-6 years. There are no immediate deadlines for applications, which can be submitted at any time.

Applications must include:
- Chosen area of research (one of the five areas defined above).
- A 2500 word summary of the project they are interested in undertaking.
- Curriculum Vitae, including details of qualifications, current and previous employment.
- Electronic attachments of any publications to date, and Master’s thesis.
