Joanne Loewy.
Rhythm, Breath & Lullabies, the effects of music on preterm infants and their kin.

Worldwide, parents sing to their children to establish contact, to provide comfort and a stable environment to enable a healthy development. Prematurely born children need above all, parental attachment and contact , as they are mostly isolated in an incubator. Research has shown that music therapy can stimulate physical growth, respiratory function and sucking frequency when it comes to food intake, helping premature born children with their early phases in life. More importantly, music therapy helps stimulating contact between new-borns and their parents. This conference has contracted (inter)national experts from the fields of music therapy, medicine and human sciences to share evidence of not only the physiological benefits of music-based therapeutic interventions in neonatology, but more over elucidate the working of the caregiver-infant bonding process: We feel proud to announce that Dr. Joanne Loewy and her team will present their work during this 1st Dutch conference and training. Dr. Loewy is the Director of the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine, and Associate Professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, US.
